I was contacted by a lady in the U.S.A. who had recently purchased a beautiful wooden chest and wanted a Nick Mackman sculpture to be displayed on top. She wasn’t sure what animal she wanted but after exchanging a few emails I had come to realise I was dealing with quite a character!
It seemed that the ONLY appropriate animal would be one with a big character and THAT was a warthog. I showed her the award-winning ‘Bad Hair Day’ warthog sculpture (above) and it was a go.
My client had specific dimensions I had to work to so it would fit perfectly in the niche she had in mind. During my regular photo updates from the studio she decided he would be called ‘Gildersleeve’ after a character from a 1940-50s’ comedy on NBC Radio.
Once Gildersleeve the warthog sculpture had made his journey across the pond my client emailed to say: ‘He is here and he is spectacular! I am unspeakably pleased!!! He is a wonder. I can’t thank you enough. This has been a great experience from start to end.’
